These can clean up amazingly well.

Something I discovered recently in cleaning up an equally dirty A250 is that Edison apparently lacquered their gold work. On mine, all the metal bits had turned almost black. After a fairly short soak in some ammonia, all the old blackened lacquer came off leaving the amazingly intact gold finish that was underneath.

Yes. One sold last year in the Stanton's auction. I believe it brought somewhere between $15,000 & $19,000. My recollection is that it was more towards the higher number.
