$13,223 is a far cry from the $45 it was sold for back in 1964. Wonder if it'll be worth $250,000 in another 50 years?

Ah, but not as much as an Ideal

A friend of mine has an Amet, that is why I know something about them. I doubt he paid over 2 grand for his. I haven't told him about this yet - I'm worried about his heart condition.

I would have thought an both the Idelia and Ideal worth a bit more than that, assuming they are complete, Ideal and Idelia worth about the same as eachother, but ~$15-18k or more depending on configuration.

You are probably right, although I sort of thought the Ideal was worth a little more than an Idealia, at around $20,000- $25,000, because they were only made for a few months and are a harder machine to get hold of.
I really dont know though. I dont usually follow the prices of high-end machines very closely because they're WAY out of my league

I just remember a couple Idelia's with mahogany wood grained horns selling for ~$40k a few years back, one in Germany and one sold out of Holland to a US buyer. I doubt they'd bring that much now but those exceptionally nice examples would probably still bring $30k or more. Who knows though...

Could somebody give me a brief history/synopsis of these Amet phonos? What makes them so rare and expensive? I am sure of probably the old supply and demand curve, but why?
