I have the 10" and 12" buttons on the Edison C-450. I find the 10" button especially helpful in guiding the reproducer to the disc, as the turntable and reproducer are not at eye level.

Here are some detailed pics of the selector buttom assembly under the motorboard: Notice on the last pic the scrape marks on the horn rim where the metal arm was when I found it. Loosening the two round-headed standard screws allowed me to move the arm farther to the left, and final adjustment was made by bending the contact area of the arm to catch the upper stop fingers. My horn is the smaller #100 horn.
This selection assembly, though, was part of the long-play upgrade fitted to this machine, so I don't know if the standard machines with this arm are fastened the same way. From what I've read above, maybe they're not.

Incidentally, how does one distinguish the waxed finish from the varnish finish? I'd like to know, so as to refinish it properly...

Yeah, The 10" and 12" buttons never were hooked up to anything. The "Long Play" 12" feature I believe was available as a kit or special order with the machine, though few existed. The 12" Long Play actually used a separate reproducer marked "LONG" on the front. It was different than the regular 10" standard DD reproducer.

If your unit has the 10" and 12" buttons, It was made around 1926-1927, and the turntable should have Orange felt as was mentioned before by an earlier poster.

Just thought I'd show how it looks now... The original reproducer is being rebuilt; so I used the one from my A-80 to test it.
(I must admit it was a bit frustrating trying to get the horn height set right)...
