Altona, I want to suggest that if there's any gluing of joints, veneer, etc., to be done
you should do it before stripping the old finish. This keeps the glue from getting into the raw wood and showing up under the new finish. And, as a second to Uncle Vanya,stripping with lacquer thinner , steel wool and deft use of a putty knife will do nicely (unless someone has attacked this machine with polyurethane )

Finally got most of the cabinet down to the bare wood...will probably wait till next summer to try and get a decent finish on it....the 190 is finally working just need a correct grill cloth...not sure where to get this. I found a RCA Victor D22-1 monster radio/phonograph...weighs in at just under 300lbs, am getting the mechanics of this beast looked at right now...not sure if it would be considered sacrilegious to post some pics of that machine on this site as it isn't just a phonograph. The handle on the 190 I had machined to fit as it isn't the original and the small triangle metal piece where the handle is threaded through I am not sure if that is the correct piece.

Hi Altona, please do keep us updated with pictures on your progress with the RCA D-22. Several of us here are also collectors of old electronic phonos and radios. The D-22 is a very sophisticated product and the top of the RCA line in its model year. I'd like to hear of your experience with getting it going and see documentation of it.
