could you post a clear, close up picture of the centre bushing, there could be something wrong, the only time i had this problem was with a small portable in which the hook on the centre of the spring spindle was snapped and the spring wouldnt stay on the spindle, it may be something more simple with yours though

The springs are bent in the center by where they attach

Got it running. No mica yet so have a cut soda bottle disk for now. Now fire the alligatoring of the shellac should I fix that or leave it as is
