Well, that nonsense certainly puts me off from uploading any records to YouTube. I have no time, money or inclination to endure fending off parasitic lawyers or other online vermin in the peanut gallery. Sharing should be a joy, not a drudgery. A pity, I have a huge collection of rare recordings that are not found anywhere on the Internet.

Yep, that's the conclusion I came to. I have better things to do that file dispute claims against parasitic companies trying it on. I guess it must be worth their while otherwise they wouldn't bother, but honestly - 100 year old recordings!!!

It's also quite ridiculous that, (as far as I know)there's no way to see who disliked your videos or to remove those dislikes either. I bet your "good idea who it was" is right btw. :monkey:[/quote]

I think I can guess as well...but not until I looked at your recent videos.....

BTW - I once got click happy and accidentally clicked dislike instead of like and discovered that you can't undo that even as the person who did it!

Actually, it happened a few months ago, and I hadn't uploaded any videos for some time. I recieved a couple PMs from other members today saying the same thing happened to them.

Sorry about the link: I wanted to take a screen cap, but was apparently unable.

The thing that really prompted this post was the name of the so-called 'copyright' holder:

"PUBLIC DOMAIN COMPOSITIONS"

How's that for bald-faced impudence?

So they just assert a copy right on on the off chance that nobody challenges and they can make money off the rights at a later point?

But also can't they make money out of it through you tube by claiming royalities and taking a cut out of the revenue raised by the associated advertising that you tube displays on or adjacent to the video? I assume that is their motivation - only small amounts of money granted but if they spread themselves accross thousands of different videos I guess it adds up

Public Domain Compositions - now that takes some beating!! Clearly some scam outfit, but the likes of IODA I would of thought would be different but they are doing the same thing in the hope of extracting (or should I say EXTORTING) money.

These days if I want to share vintage music (for educational purposes) then I do so by using a web site suxh as Box where you can stream mp3's direct from the site itself or download the file to listen to later. That way I control it and have none of the issues that many are experiencing with the likes of you tube.

I have found two interesting articles on this problem, which seems to be indeed much wider spread that the public is aware of:

YouTube Copyfraud & Abuse of the Content ID System

and

YouTube's Content ID Disputes Are Judged by the Accuser

The term 'copyfraud' pins it down pretty good.
