Someone confronted me and I responded by answering her questions is now considered confrontational.

It seems very telling that I am getting a lot of opposition for simply trying to make reproductions and fakes easily visible to the new collectors. Gee we don't respond this way to crapophones but if it's something we might have then let just not discuss it too much....

Go ahead delete the thread, ban away but I hope enough people wonder why some of their fellow collectors are so opposed to making this knowledge readily available.....

I hope that childishness made you feel better.

Maybe I will stop pointing out the emperor has no clothes when people can type a coherent sentence on how a person could tell the difference between an excellent original wooden verses a Gfell with more than just " look at it"

Until then I am going to point out that as a hobby we are big time vulnerable to reproduction cabinets, horns etc being passed of as originals and having people scammed. But yeah let's pretend this just isn't possible and do nothing.

As a member of this forum,and a forty year collector, whilst I may agree that it would be advantageous to be able to identify and alert prospective buyers of reproductions/fakes, it behoves every collector to be on his/her guard.
As has been stated, if you are so enthusiastic why not carry out research yourself and publish it to help fellow collectors instead of hijacking various threads on this forum?.

As I have stated before I do not have the indepth knowledge to do this. I simply so not know enough about the difference between say modern shellac verses early 1900s shellac. Same logic with lacquer. I do not know enough about the difference between the wood grain patterns of early 1900s oak verses modern oak ( yes it would be different as the original oak was old growth forest. I do not know enough about early 1900s stain verses their modern equivalents. I do not know enough about early nickle plating verses modern nickel plating. I do not know enough about modern paint versus earlier paint. I do not know enough about modern fonts verses early 1900s fonts. I could go on and on but in the end such a book would need true expert help to make.

You guys can get made at me for warning people about the coming on scary fakes. Or you can help figure out how to solve this issue.
