Actually that's a Victor reproducer on (I think) a Brunswick arm. Not exactly to my taste but it seems to be a good piece of work.

Or perhaps from a more recent movie, "Hysteria"....
(sorry, but someone had to say it)

Wow, bidding is over $700 now. Don't they know they could get a real Victor for not much more? Sad.

I sent the following question to the seller:
Dear billysgirl2,
Was the original owner of this item an OLD INDIAN LADY who had at least two hundred of this same machine?
Had she mentioned by any chance, that his son and his friends made these in their garage from old gramophon parts to sell these to dishonest ebayer like you, who in turn can sell them to unknowig saps on the Bay??
- pappde
And here is his response:
Dear pappde,
Hello and thank you for your e-mail. The lady that I purchased this from was older and she assured me that it was old. She said she had it professionally repaired and cleaned. She told me they replaced the plate on the front with a decal. The wood and all the pieces are old - this is an old piece. I have it in my possession and am looking at it now. This elderly lady would not lie and all the pieces are old - that is why I took so many pictures of it..so they could see it clearly. I am an honest seller and really my reputation means more than money....but I do appreciate any information anyone gives me - ....it's just the tone of your e-mail sounded a little disparaging.....I could be just taking it wrong....surely you wouldn't judge me and not know me. See my feedback - I value my customers.
Thanks again and good luck on all your Ebay selling and bidding.
Fran
Just a personal note...I am 63 years old and my husband is 69.....we do this, not to get rich and "take" someone...we do it to supplement our social security income. I am a bit of an antique myself and this looks to be old to me. How can you possibly know that it is not??? I am looking at it an it is an old victrola....I truly believe that....but maybe you have been taken a time or too and just are skeptical of other sellers. We try to be completely honest - I don't think anyone makes it by taking advantage of others ...or judging others. Anyway, thanks again

Go figure!

That statue above is not a crapophone, rather it is a piece of original art on a theme. Very nice.

My response from the seller of the Crap-o-phone:
Dear jukejunkie,
Hello and thank you for your e-mail. I have received several e-mails from other Ebay Sellers and have looked at the website....I now know that this is a fake and will revoke the bids and let the bidders know that I will be relisting it with more information. Thanks again for taking the time to let me know.

Well done! We, the forumists, have an ethical function, also. Good!
P.S. The auction is online yet (at 6h from now the auction will be closed), but the bids are at 0, and the starting price at $200.
