Outstanding! Congratulations on reaching the 2k mark
for sides played. Sounds as if possibly it is just
a tiny bit worn or perhaps chipped as you pointed out.

But, it also sounds like even though it now has just
that tiny bit of barely perceptible wear on it now
after all of these plays, that basically it's still
running strong.

Just as my own personal observation of these DD styli
so far, it seems to me that having a stylus which
always makes absolutely perfect runoff tests with
no marking whatsoever is a difficult benchmark to
always have.

More often it seems, there might be some very tiny
bit of marking on certain discs.

But hey, 2000 sides and just that tiny bit of wear!

I now have my own Bruce diamond, installed in a London Upright machine with one of Larry's diaphragms in the reproducer, and am having great fun with it. I've already posted about it in the following thread:

Like I said in that thread, I'll be glad to answer any questions. Right now, after having tested this out with what I call "seconds" (so I don't inadvertently damage a favorite record with an untested stylus), I'm going through my DD collection enjoying these sides all over again. Almost like having new ears.

I would like to update the amount of sides played. By now I have put up 400 + videos on you tube. Many of which I played several times to decide upon their worthiness. Plus I have made quite a number of the True Tone Diaphragms all of which are tested with a number of records before going out. Its only an estimate but as I play a fair number of records almost daily I suspect that I am easily near the 5,000 sides now. An still no degrading of the sound or playing surface. As Robert just pointed out, with a clarity unavailable until the new Bruce Stylus was perfected. I know that Steven has sent out to me and a few other his thoughts on the reasons behind its abilities, I hope he can post that soon.

For the benefit of those who have the ultra-rare electric Edison phonos that can play DDs, the C-1 and C-2 specifically, I have just had a Bruce diamond installed in my C-2 and am enjoying the machine all over again.

Since the original Edison stylus got knocked out long before I bought the machine there was no other choice but to use a new one. The "brand x" stylus lasted less than 100 sides before doing noticeable damage, so I wasn't about to go that route again. Thanks to Steve Medved for making it possible to choose a better product!

This took a special manufacture of the Bruce diamond, since the specifications for the electric pickup are slightly different than the acoustic one so the acoustic stylus point cannot be used in the electric reproducer. Double thanks to all those involved for going the extra mile so this rare machine can be used as intended once again.

Chuck Azzalina mounted the point, and since I have received it I've been playing "seconds" on the electric phono (not my best discs - not yet) and watching the playing surface carefully. No needle marks in the runout, and even though I've only logged 25 sides so far I can say it is performing fully as hoped for.

Sounds great, like a job well done. If I were you I would maybe locate another head for the phono and have a new stylus installed in it as a spare. Especially with rare phonos. I have a spare Edison DD in my Edison Chalet, and will be working on acquiring another one, rebuilding it and having a Bruce Diamond installed.

Agreed in principle, yes, though these electric reproducers are very rare ducks indeed.

Anyone have Steve Medved's e-mail address?? and phone number? I seemed to have misplaced it..!

Steve is selling the new Bruce Stylus's for the Amberola Diamond C, and Diamond Disc Reproducers right??
