Fran, I have to get you my C-19 numbers... It's a late 1926 Model. Currently, My Amberola 50 is resting on top of it with a vinyl mat underneath the 50... I'll have to move it for you.

I also have a bunch of digital pics with C-250's and C-19's as well.

Thanks, Tony, I don't need the pictures.

The information specific to your C-19 is all I'm really interested in, when you find the time.

Thank you! Your sales receipt is really wonderful, dating specific Chippendales has been particularly challenging for me.

Thank you, Joe! I've noticed that at some point the Edison No.33 Cabinet Factory paper labels show up, but I don't understand the relevance, yet. I've seen many, many No.18 and No.33 labels. If I had to guess, the chalk is a cabinet makers mark, or assemblers mark. I've seen marks similar to this on furniture and other cabinet-type goods, but can't be certain.

I have a hunch that the FFxxxx markings may have been a casting code, but I have no idea what any of the stamped numbers mean. They don't seem to correlate to the serialized unit, they may have served an in-house inventory or assembly need. Maybe some sort of an inspection mark. Who knows? I hope I can say with certainty, someday.

Maybe someone with more knowledge of these obscurities will chime in with an answer. :)

Thank you, Bill, for the update.

Seeing your original post jogged my memory. A couple of months ago I purchased a small Edison Chippendale promotional booklet titled, The Music-Masters Conversion."

On the back is stamped, "O. Stillman's - Established 1852 - Westerly, R.I." I bought it simply because of the C-250/C19 related interest. I did a little digging at the time, and discovered that the "O" was for Orsemus, and also found an article from April 5, 1917 announcing the sale of his bookstore in Dixon Square.

Best,

Thanks for that!

I have for some time been meaning to go over to the Westerly Library, to see whether they have any period photos of the interior of Stillman's, especially their phono department...

Thank you, Joe!

This serial number falls into the late (C250) transitional period, when the C250 exhibited the C19 style dataplate - still stamped with the C250 designation.

Did you happen to notice if the dataplate was the C19 style - Gold background with black lettering (white lettering if the black print is worn off) - like the one I have pictured below?
