I don't have a Home B in front of me right now, so I'm just going on memory, but isn't there a small roller bearing under the carriage, at the very front, near/behind the lift lever, that allows the carriage to glide freely along the casting? I seem to recall that there is one, and if this bearing is fouled up with grease, or missing, perhaps it's significantly increasing the drag when the reproducer and carriage are lowered onto the record.

Hi, I don't think I've ever seen a home with a roller bearing and mine has no fixing for one,but that doesn't mean they are all the same as mine. Maybe some homes do have one. thanks for your trying to help. I'm just about ready to give up on it Gordon.

Well, my Model A has one: perhaps they dropped them for the Model B's?

Bill,
The Home model A didn't have a roller bearing just to the left of the mandrel. What you have is a collar to hold the mandrel up when you open the end gate. The shaft is a loose fit through the collar and it is not lubricated. A roller bearing would not be needed in this position because the mandrel shaft is supported by the bearings in each end.

Oh, I need to wake up! I think the term roller tripped me up. It's technically a wheel bearing. Yes, The Model A (I can only speak for the Suitcase Homes) carriages had the wheel bearing. Sorry about the confusion. The wheel is usually frozen and is many times overlooked. I would guess that the wheel bearing was removed from the Model B because the motors they were using were more powerful and it was not needed.

Is your Home a Suitcase or Long Case model A? I think the wheel was removed from the long case Model A. It's been a while since I have worked on a long case model Home so I am not sure.

I am sorry to tell you that you have got it all mess up . The mandrell is for an edison d home seems like you have the feed screw over the mandrell on the B home the mandrell shaft has the feed screw already on it here is a pic to help you
if you have any questions at all ill be happy to help or anyone else here for this matter.

Anyway has anybody got anymore ideas what may be stopping mine from working I'm cracking up,I'm about ready to take a 10lb hammer too it
