Moving one, either across the room or cross-country. Been there, done both.

I sold a ratty Amberola 1A to my friend after I did the mechanical restoration. He is handy with paints and woodworking, which is why I sold it to him, so that the machine would be restored to its former glory. He didn't disappoint. I found an "M" reproducer at Union for him. The mechanism is more complex than an Opera, and considerably noisier.

If I could have only one cylinder machine, sure, I could dream big for an Idelia. But I'd settle for a Triumph with endgate, 2/4 minute gearing, wood cygnet horn and both "O" and diamond reproducers.

I would love an Amberola 1-A. I have had them in my shop, and they are really wonderful, the M reproducer sounds great.

Great story, Chuck! I frequently bemoan the fact that my Grandparents on both sides didn't keep their machines. Anyway, a Standard D is a pretty decent machine for a "one machine only" scenario.
