All my machines are ready to play unless I am in the middle of a rebuild or waiting for a part BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE DO

I always leave the lids on my Edison Home 2/4 minute machine and Columbia BK,
they get dust otherwise, and don't need the gears attracting dust, it can be lethal to the gears.

"Do you leave your external horn cylinder player set up, horn attached ready to play and on full display all of the time (collecting dust)?"
You Bethca!
Why? .... Why not?!!!!
Sure, My 2 minute machines gather dust....But that just makes me clean then off and give them more attention more often...!!!
My 4 minute Amberola always have their lids closed..until use....
All are lubricated at least 1-2 times a year!

Thanks to all that participated. My unscientific analysis of the responses would seem to indicate most of us leave our machines set up and ready to play.

I'm a bit late on this one but I'll chime in anyhow.
I cover mine when not in use. I want to avoid dust settling on the oiled feed screws.
The horns (all on cranes) are disconnected from the reproducers and simply moved to the side. It's a simple issue to remove the cover, connect the horn to the reproducer, and play. I think the cover is quite necessary, especially for those machines with a fully exposed feed screw.
