My Cortez does not shut off my TV just some of the time, but all the time. but it has to be in the same room as the TV. I am not suggesting something ghostly here. I should iterate that the motor in my Cortez is a universal AC/DC motor with commutator and points, not an induction disc motor. I can only assume that the motor must put out some kind of radio wave signal to my FIOS box that shuts if off while the motor is in operation. The person who compared his Credenza over his Cortez said that the Credenza was in a room with a slate floor while the Cortez was in a carpeted room. I know for a fact that having carpet and lots of furniture in a room has a muting effect on sound. When I recently had to clear out my living and dining rooms to have hard wood floors put in, I could not believe the improvement in the sound of my Edison DD phonograph and others with the new hardwood floors and no other furniture!

Thanks; I appreciate that. I got enough grief already. Correcting myself is/was an habitual occupational hazard. Sometimes I even correct others, but I'm trying to relax out of that mode. In a previous life I was a professor of music and actually got paid for doing it. Can't play wrong notes without undesirable consequences. Batting .333 is not good enough on the orchestra team. I'll stop now; talking too much is another occupational hazard.

That is one beautiful machine, I am amazed at how great it sounds, alot like an electric machine. I ran into a beautiful upright Brunswick machine at a local mall back in the summer, the owner was there and showed me all the books for the machine, original sales receipts. It even had the Ultona reproducer. He and his wife had no room at their new place so it had to go. I checked back a few weeks ago and it was sold. A great deal for $ 395.00.

"Boooooo!" It sure scared the Hades out of me! No offense meant to anyone who might like that sort of thing..but that is one ugly way to treat a nice machine. What could it have possibly done to it's owners to deserve that?

Concerning the phenomenon of the Cortez shutting off the tv when the motor starts, I asked an electronics pro who worked on my universal motor, and he said the reason was that the Cortez was on the same circuit as the TV and the universal motor draws excessive current. With current lacking, the tv shuts off. He said I might be able to stop this phenomenon by reversing the plug in the socket.
