Just saw this post and thought I would add my late Edison Home Suitcase to the mix. It is serial number 41244 and has the same attributes as yours.

Re: Featured Phonograph #105
I recently received this red banner Edison Home serial number 38835 which has a grooved mandrel. Id like to add this to the Home database for grooved mandrels. I am revivng this thread to see if anyone has new information about the purpose of these mandrels.
This Home is also special for other reasons as it contains 3 interesting attachments.
Attachment 1 starts the phonograph and lowers the reproducer in one motion. When the record is done, the reproducer is raised off the record, the machine stops and the end gate swings open, again in one action.
Attachment 2 will eject the record when the lever is pressed.
Both attachments 1 and 2 are patent applied for and I was unable to find information about them.
Attachment 3 is the Lambert Combination which consists of the Matthews reproducer, Rawlinson Sound-tight joint, the carriage and spun aluminum horn. The attachment was made by Excelsior of Germany and sold by the British subsidiary of the Lambert Co from the US.
