I would agree that Indestructibles play the loudest. I like to play them with my Indestructible Reproducer which is spring loaded and increases the volume even more than an Edison reproducer.

Agreed. I love to play Indestructibles on my Amberola 1A, which has a correctly rebuilt Model M reproducer and that large fibroid horn! Wow what a sound!

It may be where you guys live. I live in Illinois, and it is not kind to cylinders, we have temperature changes that are just bad for cylinders, cold dry winters, and hot humid summers, so in IL 95% of the indestructible cylinders will not play right, and I did not get them at the same time. The camphor of them escapes from the celluloid causing them to shrink. Amberols just crumble around here, I try not to get them in my collection, too bad there was some good songs on them. I have a four minute of Over There on Albany, and it has a wonky mid range, but my UJ ones sound great, and I have one called "Song of the Brave" and it is very loud and clear, and recorded very well. Anyone know anything about the studio they were recorded in, as equipment, and molds ect.

Here's a July 1910 Ad from Columbia/Albany Indestructibles.

It's my favorite Ad. Basically, It shows you that even way back in 1910, Wax cylinders were a major problem. Even today, It still amazes me that some original Brown wax and Black wax cylinders have made it here to 2014 after a 100 years of sitting around.. It's truly amazing when you really think about it.

Here another cool Indestructibles Ad. Circa 1907 I think...




The company was actually "touting" the fact that you could throw a stamp on the plain cylinder itself and just drop it in a mailbox, and it would get to its destination and play in perfect condition. Now that's Advertizing!

While doing family research, I came across an intersting article in one of the Albany papers about the Indestructible factory opening in Albany, it's a fascinating read (and it also clears up something of a mystery I'll post about at some point later).

Hey Rich: I did not know, there was a reproducer made specifically, to play indestructible cylinder record?


All this time, I have been using my Model "C" reproducer to play my indestructible records. I never knew I should use a different one?

Paul,

You don't need a "special" reproducer, Indestructible marketed this to simply sell their own product. They are cool, but you don't need it. A model C is just fine.
