As far as finding Edison DD records with good titles or later Amberols, unless you luck out, they are pricey and hard to find. The DD adapters for Victor machines work without any problems and allow you to select only those titles you really want and not have to invest in a DD machine. In 40 yrs I have only had one DD machine, not because they aren't readily available, I just don't want one.
I agree that there's a lot of uninteresting stuff on Diamond Discs, but boy there are a lot of gems too! I have a bunch of Diamond Disc videos on my Youtube channel:

You're welcome to check them out anytime. I have about 25 more to do when time permits. Today is a snowy day, so I may have a chance to do a few of these this afternoon.

That might be a wise choice as you might pay as much or more for the vertical adapter for your Victrola than you would for an Edison Diamond Disc phonograph. Edison Diamond Disc phonographs, especially the very common models in the incredibly common mahogany finish such as S-19, LU-37 and even the C-19 can be found at fairly reasonable prices ($200 or less) on Craigslist or estate auctions and estate sales with some patience and diligence. Just be sure that the reproducer and motor are in good playing order before you buy. In other words, find one, look at it in person and play it before purchase.

Edison Diamond Discs, especially those with catalog numbers higher than 51300, for example, can have some really snappy toe tapping tunes. It just takes a little searching. And the record surfaces improve and surface noise gradually decreases, in general, as the catalog numbers increase with some of the quietest record surfaces (and titles!) appearing in the very popular 52000 series.

 I remember seeing this great Rube Goldberg cartoon featured in (I believe!) one of the old "In The Groove" monthly issues published through MAPS (Michigan Antique Phonograph Society). If I can locate my copy of the issue that has it I'll post the cartoon as it was priceless for those who enjoy Rube's crazy cartoons. I could be wrong as it may have been in one of Allen Koenigsberg's APM or Martin Bryan's NAG issues but I'm pretty sure it was in one of the ITG ('In The Groove') issues. It was a good Rube Goldberg cartoon!

Sorry for sidetracking the topic a bit!! ;)

Doug
Thanks! It was I who sent that cartoon to ITG..... ;)

Here's a couple of photos of the Clarivox reproducer mentioned earlier.
