Or. it could be a Model D. The case looks like a Model B or it could have been used with a Model C or D as a transitional machine. I don't see any evidence of a banner decal, only the outline an Edison script decal.

I concur with Harvey, the case seems to be a B, with the separate bottom moulding.

As for whether or not it could have had a "banner" decal, I'm pretty sure I have an early Home B with a banner decal... it's a sad, grubby, unrestored 2-minute machine missing its lid, and is presently in storage, so I can't easily verify the decal.

I cannot tell from the photos whether or not there's a "ghost" of a banner decal on the machine in question... it looks like there could be ?

Looks like a nice project. :)

Here are some pics of original mahogany finishes on both a Home A and B.

Would a black light help show what was there? I would like to put it back like it should be. Of course it will never be an original machine since the motor and top works have been replaced with a D, but what should I do?

A black light?
I used them to look at Guitars. You can see if any breaks or repairs have been made. I don't think it will help. Here is what I have found. I personally think it was just the Edison script. Here are a couple pics as I strip it. I can see no hint of a banner decal? If you click on them, they are large files. I guess the question is, do I put a banner decal on it because I like them.

I wouldn't on a bet, especially since you are dealing with a much less common mahogany case, but of course it is your machine.

Do you think it had just the Edison script? If so, that is the way I would put it back. After thinking about it, I think I should at least try to put it as close as I can to its original state. Would they have made a D in that case that late in production.

I guess you could always put it up for sale "as is" and wait for one that is 100% to match your other great machines... ;).

It sure looks to me as though it just had the script. Granted, though, that I might be missing something just having access to pictures. From Frow it looks like the change over to script occurred during the Model B period and that mahogany was available as far back as the "new style" A.

Does anyone have the serial numbers that the D might have started in that case?
