Comrades of Phonography!
Let us unite and raise our voices in glorious praise of The Mighty George!
Or The Mighty Paul, if you prefer.
I've added a Wikipedia entry for The Esteemed One to this page, twice now, but they keep taking it down:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ ... ersonality
But we can all take comfort in knowing that he's ours, all ours, whether the rest of the world joins in our adulation or not.
Ok, gotta go finish photoshopping Fabrizio's mug onto a heroically-posed Il Duce poster...
(The above is intended as a gentle ribbing, just in case it's not obvious!)

It is really neat to see these pictures! New Jersey is a hike, but this gives me thoughts of finally getting off the dime and going to see the Ft. Myers site, which is a lot more manageable.

I was at the Edison-Ford Estates in Ft. Myers last summer, and the phonograph collection is spectacular. Many, many more are displayed there than at West Orange. I highly recommend both places!

That'll teach you to spend time with those precious Graphophones!
phonogfp wrote:You guys are very kind, but as I've told Fran several times, having someone nearby who takes an intelligent, enthusiastic interest in antique phonographs is a real treat for me. I'm a teacher at heart, and Fran has allowed me to drone on and on...
You make me blush...the pleasure was really all mine.
phonogfp wrote: I was, however, surprised at his reaction to the Heavy Machine Shop on the first floor of the lab. Fran is a former machinist, so I figured he'd like it, but...

He froze in the door and blurted out something that sounded like, "I didn't know THIS was here!" His face was what you'd expect if Pamela Anderson jumped out of his birthday cake naked. His jaw was hanging open as though he'd been hit in the head.

I really wasn't prepared for that surprise. Here I was thinking some work benches, a few machines and some parts bins...SURPRISE!!
phonogfp wrote:It was even worse on the second floor where the Precision Machine Shop is located. A friendly docent struck up a conversation, and I mentioned that Fran was a machinist. That was a mistake...

For the next 45 minutes, Fran was answering the docents questions about the fine points of some of the machines. I was completely lost in all the terminology...
Tom was certainly gracious, it was nice (like you do for me) to have a "teaching" moment with someone that actually listens. In my professional life (Chef and later Toolmaker), those moments were few and far between, it seemed.

Best to all,

I'd like to see the look on the visitors' faces when that ½ scale (Military) M suddenly starts running.
Sharon noticed your ghost in that photo and pointed it out to me, I had to include it here; how perfect!
Best,
Fran

The light cylinders on the 1888 and 1887 machines are made by me! Beautiful pictures, I have to visit soon.

I was amused at the sign designating the "Paris Exhibition" phonograph as the "Military, or Portable..." after Rene had said: (

Glad to see it on display! Fran, thanks for all the great photos.
EDIT: Oops, I forgot about the discovered connection to the "military" term being used prior to Frow.

Hmmmm, it seems I have some back-reading to do!
Thanks for the link, coyote!
