According to the listings, it's actually 5605. Released January 1928, it was most likely an acoustic dub from an electric DD.

Sorry Bill, my bad.....the number on the cylinder is #5605....

.
This may be a very stupid question I'm going to ask. However, since a member PM'ed asking this records condition and I have no way to play it.....can you tell just by looking at the physical condition..??.

Looks to be E- or V+, better to play it for the final grade when you can.

Thanks Sean. I will make a video once I get the machine up and running.

Now that I have cleaned and
debugged this early Lynn record case that came with the Fireside, I thought I should add pics of it to this thread.
I take it, Lynn made many different cases for cylinder records..??. I'm surprised this case is lockable. Were people wanting to have their records locked up..??. After all, a thief just needed to walk off with the whole case....

The lock is probably for kid-proofing rather than anti-theft. I remember buying a machine from an elderly lady years ago, who apologized for there not being as many records included as could have been. "My brother and I found them in the attic as children, and used them as bowling pins for quite some time until our father caught us."

Cute story, probably repeated many times with many variations. I'd not heard the bowling pins idea before though I can imagine the kids had a lot of fun....

An update for all you Edison lovers.....the new (Sitko) main spring arrived and I have now installed it. Boy, Edison springs are very stiff. I have never had the displeasure changing one before (replaced many Victor springs) and really had to work it in with Joe Armstrong...

.
Anyway, I made a short test video for those that would like to see it running. Unfortunately, the four minute stylus is broken. So, I am unable to play
The Bum Song at this time.
I will be shipping the stylus bar off to Steve.
Then, once I receive Gregg's decal....the machine will be complete.
Hope you like the video. I always find it nice to see a machine running again after years of sitting idle.
Also, I noticed the original spring, once removed from the barrel.....only expanded to about 7-8 inches. So, the spring was very weak and fatigued.

Just an update. Steve's four minute stylus arrived yesterday and I installed it myself. His stylus is so good....I had to take the machine outside to play it...

. The wind was catching the horn at first. However, the sound is wonderful. A big thank you to Steve for the stylus.
It's a good thing my eyesight is still sharp. These new stylus' are clear and very hard to see.
Hope you all enjoy the update. Now I just need to install Gregg's decal and she is as good as new..
