Wow. This is probably one of the fastest-growing threads that I have ever encountered. Good show! I'm loving these theories.

Hi Fran

I didn't read all the thread in great detail, so hope this is not redundant info

I have 2 x C19s in Mahogany, which I reported to you on some time ago.

Both have the cabinet stickers in approximately the same place as your initial pic, ie,
interior RHS adjacent to horn.

Serial # 99101 & 113761 and both have the sticker with #19 - 2430.

Cheers

Ade

…and while I'm on a roll, not sure if you needed this..

2 x A100s
SM 31681 - Interior Sticker LHS - 18 - 890
SM 54822 - Interior Sticker RHS - 20 - 890

1 slightly mangled A 85 (made me cry when it arrived tied with rope
and had the lid nailed shut) - arrived from Scrubby Creek Queensland

SM 814 - no visible factory on sticker inside walls, or signs of one, only the
small Edison instructions sticker (also on the A100s) and the floor of the cabinet
has been replaced.

It occurs to me that in the mid-late 1920s as Edison sales decreased, the number of contracts with cabinet suppliers probably diminished as well. If enough of these late "Factory No.19" labels can be found to comprise a reliable sample, a comparison between machine serial numbers and cabinet numbers may suggest that Factory No.19 was perhaps Edison's sole cabinet supplier toward the end. Of course, we don't yet know if the cabinet serialization was distinct between models, or if it represented the cumulative output for all models at Factory No.19. There's no model designation on the labels, so I suspect it's the latter. At this point I don't really know what to think... :?

Data! Data! :)

I agree, George. :)

I wonder, too, if the 1924 merging of the Edison companies would have compelled this serialization. Money was tighter than ever before, and I'm sure the directors would have wanted to watch inventories much closer than earlier years.

We...need...more...data! :)

Gene, I hope I didn't offend you yesterday, but because many others have submitted information that expands my original survey, I would urge you to post yours again, if you're willing to. I've elected to expand my survey, in the hopes that we can expose other manufacturing trends over the long-term.

Didn't George Frow list the various "Factory Numbers" and their surmised locations? I'll hafta look for my book .... 33 might have been the Jamestown Mantel Company, 19 was New London, Wisconsin ...etc ... as I recall
