I don't think this asking price was for the Triumph per se, but the one-of-a-kind Douglas cabinet-combo. I suspect it didn't sell.Aaron wrote:as for a price on the triumph, I would think 20 to 30k for it. 30 to 40k are what M class and electric concerts under glass normally go for.

Those phono lamps do indeed have a certain bordello flair all their own. Should come supplied with a recording of My Man Rocks Me With One Steady Roll by Trixie Smithrichardh wrote:Great photos of the show...it is nice to window shop a look at some of those top end machines. That inlaid Edison..lovely.
However, am I the only person in the world to think that those phono lamps are the most hideous chintzy creations known to exist?

Before anyone gets TOO excited, the treadle machine is a Columbia shaver, and these were sold until around 1906-07. It doesn't shave Bell & Tainter cylinders (which are not shaveable), but it does use the old surplus stands which American Graphophone originally manufactured for Bell & Tainter Graphophones.JohnM wrote:The treadle machine is a Bell & Tainter shaver.

Oops! My bad! When I was in the truck, the top of the shaver was covered and I only saw the base. The seller told me it was a shaver so I assumed and we know how that is spelled! Thanks for correcting my error, George! BTW, who is that dealer?
Thanks!

The shaver was offered by Bill Landon. He's had it for awhile - - I think it has been at the past 3 Union shows...

Thanks for the great pictures. The Triumph looks quite familiar to me, especially with this particular cabinet. Does anyone know if that's the machine from the Dave Heitz' collection?

It is indeed from the Heitz collection, and appears in our book, Phonographs with Flair. It's a knockout in person!WDC wrote:Thanks for the great pictures. Gosh, Bill Landon (the dealer) was calling it a "Bell & Tainter shaver" every other sentence, so anyone could be forgiven for having the phrase stuck in their head!JohnM wrote:Oops! My bad!
