WD40 and penetrating oils like Plusgas are great, but if something is really stuck I have had success with a drop or two of plain old diesel fuel. It stinks to high Heaven and is horrible if you get it on your hands but after a day or two following an application round both sides of the stuck part and judicious wiggling backwards and forwards by hand most bits come apart. Wear rubber gloves, or you will smell of diesel for weeks!

My all time favorites for stuck, parts are Kroil, and PB blaster for getting things unstuck. Some things though even they fail on.

Which of the techniques suggested by the earlier replies have you already tried? Have none of them worked?

If all else fails, cut it off with a Dremel as Jerry suggested.

I’ve been soaking the piece in penetrating oil overnight so hopefully a pair of pliers will help me. I’m pretty weary about the Dremel idea I just don’t want to damage things worse getting that piece off.

Maybe you should just buy a replacement "u" tube at this point?

I was able to get the flange to move after soaking it in penetrating oil overnight, now all I gotta do is just pull it off. I would have already but I literally had a minute before I had to leave for work! (Why does that always seem to happen?) at least I don’t think I have to replace the U tube but right now it’s a cliffhanger for a few more hours (ACK!)

Well unfortunately it wants to be an ABSOLUTE sore in my side and NOT slip off! 😾

I tried to yank it off with a pair of pliers NO dice!

Always gotta be that one ABSOLUTELY STUBBORN part that gets in the way!!!

So now it’s Currently soaking in PB blaster.

If I’m gonna Dremmel this off so be it.

Welp. I’m really this dang close on making a thread on the Yankee Trader section for another one as my last hope! But that will be after I ruined it in the process of getting this absolute bear of a flange off! It’s not too messed up by my pliers so far…

It looks like you at least managed to get the flange insert to rotate a bit and the pin now appears to line up with the "groove" on the U-tube. That's good. If you are having trouble wiggling it loose at that point, you may want to try one other thing. Take a flat screwdriver, put the blade against the insert, and GENTLY tap the edge of it, working your way all around the ring. If that doesn't work, then yeah, it's probably time for the Dremel.
