Looks like a machine with good potential- but since Lutonium is selling it the asking price will be unrealistic.

his stuff does seem to sell consistently, very well. is he a dealer or something? or just sell on ebay? he had an edison L-19 on there recently with a final selling price of about 1500.

Here's a "Puritone" which tries to look like a consolette:

Notice the tone arm has the same odd twist as the Kimball arm. Nice looking cabinet, my favorite detail is that the brass plate has spaces for the model and serial number but they haven't been stamped. Also notice that the Puritone Phonograph Co. is "NOT INC."- I suspect this machine is an "out the back door" low priced sideline from some other maker, possibly Kimball.

I like it! A nice looking machine.

We drove to a sale that had yet another Melophonic recently and it was a complete basket case. Too bad it was a neat design when it had legs among other things.

Here's a Cecilian Melphonic on Ebay:

Looks very much like a Consolette, the asking price is a might high though. I wonder where the seller got the notion it was manufactured by Victor?

Appears perhaps it has a acoustic reproducer replacing the original as they are prone to falling apart from what I have seen of them so far. Cracked pot metal that just gives way. As interesting as these odd units are, I am afraid they are not very reliable as far as the arms and reproducers go and without that you really don't have much.

That might be one reason the late Silvertone machines aren't nearly as common as the earlier ones.

Folks,

Lazy bum that I am-here's the two Amphion phono images I mentioned a while ago. These are taken from a magazine or newspaper advertisement and "cleaned-up". I think it would be neat if we put together a small gallery/folder containing everything we collectively know about many of these off-brand machine.

Regards,
John
