No, when I clicked on the link the picture came up, but so did one of those "fix your PC" scare scams.

This photobucket is full of ads, this is probably one of these. I tried to upload the scan directly, but I got an error message back saying that I can only upload pictures of up to 800 pixels, which is a stamp-size.

Even more O/T, perhaps, Mrs. Jenkins only bequeathed us 9 recordings, and only eight of those are on the RCA Victor CD. (There, the balance consists of a "Faust Travesty" by other artists).

The fanatic, therefore, will require Florence Foster Jenkins & Friends: Murder on the High Cs on Naxos Nostalgia, which not only restores the piano introduction to Bell Song (inexplicably cut from the RCA Victor CD), but also includes Valse Caressante, her ninth recording. To fill out the CD, there are misguided recordings by artists of the stature of Lauritz Melchior and Alexander Kipnis.

Best wishes (????), Mark
Thanks for the clarification and correction. The Naxos item is found here: http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp ... e=8.120711 . It, too, contains filler material (eight selections) after the FFJ tracks, so if you really must have every recorded example of the Queen of Song, this is the one to get. Me, I'll settle for what I've already got; I find it quite sufficient. :D

A record dealer had two FFJ 12" records at the APS for $10 each. I was going to buy them as a curiosity until I heard a couple minutes of her voice. As an opera connoisseur, my ears rebelled, and I had to say "NO".

Florence Jenkins is more os less the Ed Wood of the opera, both became famous for works that were so bad that ended up attracting the curiosity of people. I had never heard of her up to when her disc popped up in a lot I bought of 1950's 10-inch LPs. When I played it first I thought there was something wrong with the recording speed, and only when I looked her up I found that the only correct thing in those records was the speed.

I now find myself, surprisingly, much more sympathetic to the lady than I ever was before I learned of her affliction with STD, and the terrible effects of both the disease and the attempted remedies. Surely these factors affected her judgement and behavior. Assuming that she was indeed a talented pianist in her youth, it is difficult for me to square her later performances with that background. But I know from my teaching and performing experiences that musical ability comes in all kinds of proportions and strengths. I once had a very talented and advanced instrumentalist in a music theory class, who was an absolute whiz on her instrument but who could not take a major scale from dictation; indeed, she was practically tone deaf. Another student, a pianist, had perfect pitch but "imperfect everything else," in the words of a colleague. I cite these two examples as relevant to the phenomenon that was Florence Foster Jenkins. In view of the good things that she did in support of the cause of promoting classical music by her other activities, and in consideration of her illness, I'm inclined to give the lady a pass.
