No... It's an Edison Victrola!

It wasn't until he insisted that the metal manufacturer's plate which he said was attached inside the cabinet specifically stated "Edison Victrola" that I knew something was wrong.

I beg to differ! I've seen phonographs with metal tags inside that say Edison Victrola on them.

LOL! Yeah, but they're not side by side.

Actually, though, this did cross my mind. Perhaps what he remembered seeing was vendor's ID plate with both words? (I wonder where the 1897 date came from, though. Est. 1897?)

Many many moons ago I saw a Victrola (yes, and honest-to-goodness, Camden NJ-made Victrola)in an antiques shop. I asked the owner if I could hear it, and she produced an LP of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. When I saw the LP, I told her not to play it, as a Victrola would damage the record irreparably. I asked if she had any of the old, brittle shellac records; she ignored me, wound up the machine, put the record on the turntable and proceeded to make vinyl linguine.
