Actually Bill, in the last few years I've realized that the "S" crank with the bigger winding shaft crept in later in the 4 clip production. I think it could possibly coincide with the very first New style Model A machines. The earliest New style Model As are sprinkled in 4 clip production from about the late 27800s to the early 43000s (when the last 4 clip machines were produced). I know of two 4 clip machines with early primitive "S" curve cranks: 34292 and 38767. (As a side note; New style #33279 also has a primitive early "S" curve crank.) I'm sure there are other 4 clip machines with the bigger winding shaft. Unfortunately it's a feature that doesn't easily show on photos so it may be some time before I have better data.
