The Duco (nitrocellulose) lacquer used on your Consolette may also be repaired by padding. In fact, a product called "Padding lacquer" is mad specifically for the repair of these surfaces. Don't strip save as a last resort. It requires a great deal of effort to remove what may well be a repairable finish which you will then have to rebuild.
Thanks Uncle Vanya, that sounds interesting. Could you please elaborate a bit more about the process of padding a shellac finish? So far I had only limited success with repairing or re-amalgamating shellack finishes.

Thanks
Andreas

I did try to reamalgamate what finish was left, however, it was too far gone in many areas which resulted in an even color. So I took it all off and was pleased with the results given what I started with.

I have used original material as an additive to new material to keep the color pallet with good results. In this case, it was not to be.
