In the end it sold for $ 255

I placed a bid myself, but was outbid. Probably for the best though, because shipping, taxes and import duties would have made it even more expensive.
Fortunately a few days later another copy of the same record was offered on Ebay, and because it was in lesser shape (not E+, but more like E-/V+) and perhaps also the seller wasn't a 78 dealer, it sold for a lot less. I ended up paying around $ 70. And since the seller was located in Europe I didn't have to pay taxes and import duties.
Because I was afraid that the seller wouldn't know to pack the record properly I gave him specific instructions. He didn't exactly follow them to the letter, but the record arrived intact.
Being both a collector of 78's and a big L&H fan, I'm happy to have finally obtained this record. It plays really good, much better than it looks. That's the great thing about those Columbia's.
And... this happens a lot on eBay. I can't tell you how many records I've chased for decades that I way overspend for when they FINALLY pop up because, dammit, I want it... only to have one or more others pop out of the woodwork right after.
The only times that
never happens, of course, is when I tell myself "this one is too expensive... another one will show up" and pass.
First world problems...

I'll have to use a cd if I want any proper laurel and hardy music unfortunately.
Understand your desire to play off shellac discs.
The Beau Hunks CD is a must-have though.

The Beau Hunks made a total of 4 cd's (and 2 maxi singles) with L&H music. Personally I think the 1st cd is the best.

Don't forget the proper attire to listen to The Beau Hunks, or an original Laurel & Hardy disc:

And here's yet another one:
http://www.ebay.nl/itm/LAUREL-AND-HARDY ... SwTuJYvgUr It looks like a nice copy, not quite E though, especially the B-side has visible greying.
That's 3 copy's within just a couple of weeks. I'm beginning to doubt the rarity of this record.
