Valecnik, I'm sure you're right about the over-production of the Model D. The Phonograph Works seemed to have a pretty big stock of lids with the "Change of Reproducers" sticker inside.Valecnik wrote:I have a related question. It seems almost all of these labels reference the model D, (Standard, Home or Triumph) even on the E models.
At least for the Standard machines, I can say that some went out with paper stickers pasted over the "Change of Reproducers" sticker. I've noted a few with either a big "E" or in one or two cases a big "F" on the over-sticker. Over time many of these over-stickers seemed to have been partially removed, no doubt by people curious to see what was printed on the label underneath. My Standard model E has about half of its over-sticker torn away.
This seems to be a period when the factory was constantly converting one model to another to move increasingly obsolete stock (ie: outside-horned machines). While I can't speak to this practice being done on a Triumph, I can say that I haven't yet seen this done on any Home machines. Why it was worthwhile on a Standard and not on a Home, I can't imagine.
