Wow! You're a lot younger than I thought! But your 8-4 is a great Orthophonic machine and worth restoring. If you have an air tight horn and tonearm, and a rebuilt Orthophonic reproducer you will get awesome sounds!

Now who says us millennials don’t appreciate this hobby? ;) I assume both of my ortho sound boxes will badly need a rebuild. I actually know a place who will rebuild both my soundboxes since I sent my Edison DD reproducer to them last year and they did a decent job restoring that. But it won’t be anytime soon until we get a reliable vehicle. As for the tonearm, I put grease where the horn and tonearm connects right? I also know you have to rub down the horn with glycerol to tighten it, correct?

Good news gang! I finally have the PROPER tonearm!! Yay!!!! It finally plays! But with distortion ( as expected with unrestored soundboxes.) The back bracket is fine for now so I’ll just leave it alone. And if something goes wrong with it I have the JAS replacement on hand.
