I recently restored an E, and wanted to point out a few things which I thought stood out. On this particular Class E, it had no wire wound shunt resistor. Instead it had two resistance bulbs to provide the baseline, and higher current to go across the governor brushes. First picture is of the restored wire arrangement on the hard rubber block mounted to the field coil casting.

The second picture shows the restored switch plate. The governor hoop was originally covered in white rubber as insulation, I have recovered it with white butyl rubber. The speed control knob is GUTTA PERCHA as well. And yes, if you touch the stem of the knob and accidentally touch your pinky finger against the governor cage (without insulation) you WILL feel a tingle!!!
