Jerry started this thread when he first got it. He sold it to me yesterday. And I got some nice goodies to go with it! I’m gonna keep it all together.

Eventually I will get to doing a teardown and cleaning of the motor and it’s a later style motor so hopefully this won’t give me grief to the point I have to send it off like I will be going to on my VIII‘s motor.

I can’t seem to get it on. I probably could but I don’t want to force it.
If anyone wants to know, it’s a soundbox for a German machine called “Eectromophon.”

Ok. I need some help with this Columbia BE reproducer. It’s skipping a lot and I have never had something with this type of reproducer. What am I doing wrong?

I removed a record without lifting the lever up I hope I didn’t screw it up.

Looks like the reproducer is leaning a trifle too far forward. If you undo the tension wheel at the top, seat it securely in the carriage, and tighten it up, it should give no trouble. This is a Lyric reproducer, by the way. They are excellent and in proper trim sound better than the Edison Model C. However, you don't want to put a copper Edison diaphragm in them as that doesn't have the compliance needed for the Lyric system; the copper is stiffer & requires the weight of the Edison design.

All of these phonographs are wonderful, by the way.

Just in case I need another one, looking on eBay there are currently none listed! So I take this is going to be a little more difficult to get ahold of compared to a model c or a floating type Columbia. I might as well ask the Yankee Trader section if they have a spare when I enough cash together.

They're really harder to find than Edisons because they don't fall out as easily, and because Columbias were sold a lot in cities (where the cylinder phonograph was replaced quickly compared to the rural areas.)

I would say, tune it up & enjoy it; you wouldn't need a spare. They last forever & look great. Parts for Lyrics are very difficult to find--except for gaskets; it uses the same gaskets as an Edison Model C or H. If it loses a stylus, send it to one of the rebuilders for a new one. (Wyatt Markus just rotated some Edison styli for me...they work great! He's now answering an embarrassing amount of idiot questions about how to make the new linkage for the K. Apparently the K linkage was a little different. OK...so he tells me how to feed this thing with some new parts, which I may have to make from a pin instead of an office staple.)

I like the Vic II, the Home is a classic, and the BE is a good looking cylinder machine that you may wish to dress up someday with a larger horn. It'd be a good use for a 30" witch's hat or a H&S, Tea Tray, or Searchlight flower horn, in my unqualified opinion.
