I bought this at an auction in the UK many years ago for £5 as no one knew what it was. I currently have a brass horned Dulcephone on it and it looks great. I have seem pictures of similar pedestals and some of them have a tambour front rather than a door. I assume it is British made ?

That's very attractive. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Cheers,

It's not clear to me what the meaning of "pedestal" is in this thread. Yet, here are a few nice combinations from our collection. Cheers, Russie

Although more a record cabinet than a pedestal, I have not seen another with the decal like this on the front. The size and color are perfect for a Victor IV.

Thank you Russie. I was thinking that at the time, people may have used simple pedestals to set their talking machines upon - instead of cabinets that were likely more costly.
Maybe I'm very wrong in my assumption, although I know I've seen images of the combination.
Of course cabinets are more practical, and would make a lot more sense. This post is evolving in a way that indicates pedestals perhaps weren't as common as I thought they might have been, after all.
Cheers,
Fran

Yes, thank you Fran. I may have been a bit hasty in questioning the definition. After, I looked it up on the 'net and found the definition. A loose interpretation makes any cabinet, post, or column, eligible to be called a pedestal. Cheers, Russie

All of this has helped me to think a little differently, in defining my own goals. We have a very old cabinet that we're sure was intended to store tobacco pipes, but unfortunately the innards were long gone before it was given to us by my wife's grandparents well over 35 years ago. We've always liked it, and when the kids were young, it housed a bunch of VHS tapes.
I'll have to put some effort into cleaning it up, and making it storage friendly for disc records.
Best,
Fran

What a great buy for a fiver! And in great condition. Even if they thought it was a bedside cabinet you'd have thought it might have gone for a little more. Many of these were made in Germany so that tends to be more likely than British. Is the Dulcephone also oak? If so it probably is perfect for it.

The decal has survived well for being on the outside and adds interest. Here is an Angelus gramophone that may well have sat on it. Personally I'd rather have the Victor IV especially as the color match is so good.
