Many thanks to all for your guidance. Yes, I will start a new thread. Indeed the motor sounds simple enough, but I don't dare try dismantling it without a lot more research and recommendations -- I know better than to mess with a spring that's waiting to explode. In the meantime, I've already begun my assault on the cabinet... slowly and methodically. Plus, I got a private message from another forum member who lives 5 minutes down the road from me, and he pointed to someone only about 30 minutes away who also does repairs. I appreciate everyone's input -- sharing info is a lot of fun! Thanks again.
