The bullet brake pictured in the last post is exactly like the one I had on my rigid arm Victor M... As far as mending the elbow is concerned, I would only trust the repair to someone who has fixed them before and is familiar with how rare they are, not just anyone who repairs brass instruments. I am saying that from experience, since I sent mine to a "brass repair expert" who was not familiar with them and he got it straightened and reinforced it on the outside with brass wire, which was a total disaster. It worked but looked like crap... It took 13 years and $500 to find a perfect one...

Now the brake on my front-mount E seems identical to that shown here, with the exception of a separate, crescent-shaped metal plate underneath the lever. How common is that; and would it serve (minus the extra plate) as a suitable replacement?

Yes, I think it would be correct if used without the crescent piece. Jerry
