Beautiful machine and nice matching horn!

The case looks much too shiny on the pictures, as if clear-varnished with boat laquer. I suppose it is a false impression because of the exposition to the glare of the sun.

With the original motor in there and all the accessories that was definitely a good
deal. I love the dog and baby needle tins, very cool! Nice score!

Thanks for the pictures Steve. Really a fantastic machine. I see that the speed control fits the filled in screw holes in the cabinet I have. One ques, in the original 2 pics I posted of complete machines, one has the small decal identifying the model, while the other does not. Mine doesn't either and it never had one. Does that mean anything with regard to dating the machine? The other HMV machines I have do have the small decal so I wondered.

I did notice the different corner trim, but not until I took the pics. Someone used really small nails to put it on. It's more obvious in the pics than in reality so I think I'll not mess with it.

So now I just have to start hunting for the replacement parts- horn, elbow, speed control, brake... I haven't been watching Ebay very closely lately so this will give me a reason to keep a closer eye on it for the missing parts.

Thanks to all for comments and advice. In the end, much of the machine was there and I don't mind being patient until the right parts come along.

Starkton, I noticed too that it looked too shiny but if you look at the gold gramophone decal on the side it's almost flat finished (indicating it's not been varnished over. I too think it's a false impression created by the strong sunlight on original, (very clean) finish.

You really should post it as a featured phono at some point and include a few more pics, including the motor. I don't think it get's the intention it truly deserves in an older running thread on another topic entitled "HMV horn machine- kind of".

No really Steve, add a specific post to highlight that fantastic machine! Having it lost amongst this Frankenphone thread is just not right.

BTW, the cabinet polish is 100% original and virginal. It was protected by a layer of nicotine and once the general grubby dirt was wiped off, the shining original varnish simply glowed underneath it all! The same applies to the original plating on the tone-arm and back-bracket.

Sort of. The absence of the gold circular transfer identifying it as a "Junior Monarch" suggests it is the re-numbered "No. 4" and therefore dates after 1910. The model was not available after 1914 as far as I can tell. I have no access to HMV records and info' is scant, to say the least.

Yea it would be a tough choice deciding between those tweetybirds and the baby music master! I'm just not sure what I would do.
