It appears that Meltrope made very similar boxes using the same basic casting and springs for Dulcetto at least.

Did your friend pass any photos of the No 2 spring conversion. I would be interested to see the results.

I have only just looked at this thread and the mention of Dulcetto. Any firm placing a large order for Meltropes could have their name put on the front mask.
I have seen several such variants which would make a collecting sideline in themselves. Here is one made for Antoria :
There are no markings on the cover of my II. Is that significant? Also the Dulcetto that I referenced is likely the same casting but does not have the compression nut to the rear and des not have the machined section to the front to accept the sprung cover.
It has a press on cover, inscribed Dulcetto and retains the needle bar spring pivot.
