I dont think people want to admit it, but the prices for everything are sliding. Look at what Victor VI's have been going for on Ebay. I am not surprised Wayne was expensive, the dealers often ask silly prices. 2k for a schoolhouse seems about right given the current state of it all.

Heh, maybe dealers don't want to believe it, but I think most of the rest of us know they are. I've said this elsewhere on this board, but machines I used to have no problems moving in just days are barely garnering any interest whatsoever, even with properly adjusted prices. It is what it is, unfortunately. I'm just happy I don't have to rely on handsome profits or any resale at all right now to survive. My resale stock is basically sitting dormant until things pick back up again. I've certainly had to hold back on major purchases lately for my own collection because I can't sell what I have to make room and justify anything new. I'm patient, things will pick back up eventually!

It is a healthy development and a positive symptom of a functioning market that the price level of more common machines (including the type VI) decreases.

Of course the whirl of sliding prices also allows bargain buys of items generally regarded as the "icing on the collectors' cake". I have just got a "de luxe" gramophone in excellent condition, one of the first central European inside horn models introduced in early 1908. Purchase price then was three times that of a "Melba". It is completely unknown over here and I will post some photos in a few days.

The Ptacek Bergmann was priced at $7000. I was surprised to see one there and bought it. Bill made only about eight before his untimely death.
