Well, I think that is great news about the sign being from the 40's or 50's. I'm sorry that you are not sure what that means. I'm not able to help you with that. In my opinion ( I could be wrong). I was impressed to read that you did some research and found an expert.That is what it's all about. I'm not sure who the "Rofls" are and can't vouch for their expertise or opinions but,if your good with it, that is what matters most.I myself think that it is a very special thing that we are all able to learn something from a newer collector.... sorry dealer.That is what these forums are all about. IMHO.
With repect to my "expertise"......well,I think I may have a sleepless night tonight. However,by tommorow I should be able to live with myself .That sign is going to look great hanging on the wall of your store.That I'm certain.You may see if the "Rofls" can give you C.O.A. to go with it.Most of us try to get one with our pieces.Hey,it couldn't hurt

I've been dormant on this forum for awhile...trying not to feed my addiction. But I just had to let you guys know what was said on the radio forum about this forum.

Either way im happy with the price we got it at. I was told on another crappy forum that my sign was from the 70's or 80's which i knew it wasn't, that's why i got defensive when childish know it all's act like i don't know how to tell when something has age to it..

So just got to say, I think we need to vote him off the island

I'm sure the guys at TMF will appreciate this comment. Especially after they've help you identify multiple machines in your sheds, advised you on which records might be valuable & which types of records are for what machines & the methods of playing these different records without destroying them. You posted about parts you have & got honest replies, and you've even asked about values and got honest reponces, even though you obviously are only interested in knowing what price tag to put on them in your shop.

And since you freely give your opinion about these crap forums & the lame idiots that post on them, here's my opinion of you-
You are dreamer, a user & a liar who thinks he knows everything but knows nothing.
You cant even accept that you sign IS ENAMEL & NOT PORCELAIN.

And perhaps the other members of our "crappy forum" would like to see what a REALLY sign of this type/era looks like. Note the added details compared to the REPRODUCTION SIGN, like the shading of Nipper, paws that actually look like paws, detailing on the turntable & grain effect on the machine cabinet, and it is signed by the manufacturer along the bottom r/h edge.
I was going to repost the info I posted on the ARF, but it's probably easier for anyone interested to read the whole thread there.

If it's from the 40's or 50's, then I guess that makes it a 40s or 50s repro versus a 70s or 80s repro.

Those signs were originally made by the Victor Talking Machine company, or more likely one/some of their subcontractor(s) so if it's not from the 20's or earlier and not authorized by Victor, then it's a repro.

I don't think one should be criticized for offering an honest opinion on the provenance of the sign or anything else. Would this forum be of any value if all enquirers were assured their item was what they hoped it might be?

I dont see a lot of American stuff unless it's posted here, so I could be wrong, but my understanding is that this more simplified design came about in England at around the start of WWII, where it was used on needle tins etc as part of the war effort to conserve resources- in this case, the simplified design & detail meant less colours needed, as shown below.
The rust on the later needle tin & original sign would also seem to suggest a thinner layer of paint & enamel was applied to a poorer quality metal. All my HMV tins of this design/era have rusted like this, the one below being the best I could find.
If you look at the design details used on my later tin and those on the original sign, they are much more closely matched than my tin and the OP's sign.
Did this simplified design occure in USA too?
I cant say I've ever seen this modernised design used on USA stuff, but as I said, my experience with American stuff is pretty limited. I would also have though American advertising signs & products of the 40s/50s era would have included RCA-Victor somewhere to make it relevant to the US market.

Anything with the His Master's Voice image on it, that doesn't show a trade mark or patent warning is an unauthorised copy and therefore not original. Victor (and later RCA-Victor) and The Gramophone Company were obsessively strict about their trade mark. Stores selling their machines or records were only allowed to show the 'Dog' sign in the shop window if they were company approved.
So, to cut a long story short those 'porcelain' plaques cannot be anything else but cheap illegal copies and badly made too. I wouldn't spend more than 10 euros (or $15) on them, knowing they are as fake as the Crapophones offered on the internet.
