Update 2/24/23: I GOT IT!

Ok here’s some what are going to be some “before” pictures.

Thanks to some helpful instructions from George, I was able to get it apart without issues.

I have the parts soaking in Simple Green like Dyslexic Genius Hurt does with old dirty parts.

Here we are! Parts are all cleaned up. Not perfect and some of the Nickel finish has worn off the last 125 years, but the parts aren’t filthy dirty anymore!

I think I would be trying to open that spring barrel up & repack it--sure looks nice for 1898 though.

Yeah maybe I should be doing that. I need to find a method to lining the gears with the holes that isn’t a total pain in the rump.

I’m waiting for the key, case, and speed control to show up in the post.

Yeah, I’m gonna admit I‘m not exactly confident about this part, but I’m in no hurry either…

I need some re-assembly tips so everything will line up as they’re supposed to do.

Re-assembly: once you repack the springs in there & have them all greased up, make sure you have some grease on the outside edges so you can line them up. Use the screw holes to locate the other screws. Also, you could take a Sharpie or a grease-pencil & make a mark on the barrels that will show where they line up at, roughly.

Right now that barrel is very likely full of diluted Simple Green so don't expect it to run properly. I'd be worrying about it rusting eventually.

I took an Eagle apart as one of the first machines I ever did. The springs were really not that difficult. They are substantially smaller than an average spring, which makes them quite manageable to put back in. Don't stress out about taking the springs out, it's really not that hard.
