to some degree it's pure genius how the spindle hole has been re-interpreted as another type of "hole"
@ Lah Ca: many thanks for your comment. What you say makes a lot of sense in theory, but I can hardly imagine any museum hardly interested in anything over here: we're at the point that libraries are uninterested in getting books (for free). The record-postcards are funny items and sure have a market in both records and postcards collecting fields, but I believe they're in the "few pennies" department. I have to remember to post a pair of pictures in the next days. The pair of "marriage records" were already covered in the past, but for some reason I can't find the old thread, and quite surely the pictures are gone (as all other pictures).
@ Carlos: the animals' record-book is a classy collector's item which I've never seen before. What a nice boxset. Is it amusing to listen to?

Yes, Marco, apart from the dog, which does not really need any record for people to find out, the other sounds are quite interesting, and reasonably well-recorded.

Bump! This specific record from my collection probably is just a bit too new for your interest, but this disc not only has a typed out label(perhaps a custom pressing of some sort), it also plays from the inside out!

OMG, how did they get the record in a typewriter?!
Just teasing. Is it a transcription disc? They usually play from inside out.

On the surface there is nothing particularly unusual about this disc. It is just some very catchy accordion music on an unusual label. Ordinary, until it is sought after.
I wish I had seen that it was sought before the CD was issued without it. It turned out they were looking for this record for a few years.

They now have it, I donated the test record and it has been added to the collection at the Mills Music Library UW-Madison.

What a magnanimous gesture, James!
I had the good fortune to be in attendance at the presentation concerning the Wallin's Svenska Records project presented by the Archeophone Records crew and Professor Emeritus James Leary, which was held at UW-Madison's Mill's Music Library. I contributed to the Wallin's CD set (Swede Home Chicago) project, providing several Wallin's records and some Wallin's record sleeve graphics. Your two records were unboxed and shown to everyone in the audience. Your discovery of the two discs together like that is simply amazing!!! I still can't get over the superb condition of that test pressing, especially considering the stock copy suffered some significant heat damage to the grooves. I don't remember ever seeing a Marsh Laboratories test pressing of anything before that night --- quite impressive!
It's fantastic to finally be able to hear the two sides of that test pressing! You really helped to complete an unfinished story!

Thanks Bob, I saw your name in the article and wondered if it was you. I'll be getting the damaged one back soon. They wanted it for the labels. The damage was on one side and at least I'll continue to enjoy the other side. I'm waiting for this event to show up on youtube, hopefully. Thanks for adding the photo, too.
James.
PS: This was in the same box that I had bought. Same test label. The notes in capital letters were made by me when first bought.

I never even thought of this record as a sort of transcription disc until you mentioned that. Though, i do indeed have my doubts. The record itself only has around 4 minutes per side and the groove spacing between each sound effect is much stranger than the label itself in my opinion, so to me at least, calling it a transcription disc would be quite a big stretch. When i'm home, i'll probably post an image of said grooves(if i don't forget) and also the audio.
I'm still a bit bummed that these types of oddities are painfully hard to find, even when buying from hyper-specific record collectors. That's why i have a small bit of envy materialize whenever i see someone who's somehow managed to find these type of records. Maybe the places with records around me are simply too basic!

Not a 78 but a 10" Microgroove disk. Found in a box of 78s.
Edit: It is not a 10" 33&⅓ microgroove record. It just looks like one. It is flexible vinyl. There are multiple tracks marked out on the disk. But it plays at 78 RPM. And it is really boring.

I just viewed this on Youtube, it's from last year, partly about the Wallin's record above.
I used two minutes of my 15 minutes of fame starting at 1:10:05, but feel free to enjoy it all.
