Hi Paul- Are you referring to the two thin lines on the back carriage rod? They are there as One Minute markers-- If the carriage travels from one to the next in one minute, you are in good shape-

Yes Brad, that is correct! I was referring to those lines. I thought it was a minute, and not two? Because I remember reading that in the manual of my Edison Home.

I believe it's 1 minute on 2 minute gearing, and 2 minutes on 4 minute.

Well, I just discovered something else is missing? A set screw for the governor.

That style of governor does not need a set screw in that spot. What you've got is just fine, (with the small exception of the bent-up spring wire. ) The collar that sits in the middle of the governor assembly is what drives the governor. It drives it through that (bent) spring wire. It's THAT collar that uses a setscrew, and it already has one.

Essentially, nothing. It just a "leftover" from earlier governor designs where a setscrew was used. In this improved design, that collar is meant to float on the shaft while being driven by the other collar and the shock absorbing spring wire.

Okay, thank you for that. The bent spring is my doing as I was trying to move it too help the governor, Main problem I have been is getting the speed to play right so my records don’t sound slow. I thought I watched a video on YouTube about adjusting the metal ring on the governor.

Yes, that would normally be the thing to do, but this governor is a bit different. If you had loosened the middle collar, (metal ring), and moved it as needed, versus bending the spring, it would have done the some thing. As it is, if it works for you the way the way it is now, then all's well that ends well. The bent spring is not ideal, but probably still okay.

Well, I talked to a fireside owner on Instagram, and it turns out need a second screw for the brass collar on the end of the governor.
