That, most likely, will not be enough heat.

Remember to remove the burrs from the shaft first.

That means sanding or buffing the shaft first right?
Well the soldering iron isn’t working so the torch or saw is gonna be the last resorts. The gear and pulley and shaft are too beat up to be any of use and all that’s gonna be replaced anyway. Better to replace them than breaking a casting. Everything else on the machine is just fine.

Well, I went the unorthodox route and sawed off the shaft...I was gonna replace those parts anyway. It's better than breaking the castings. Hopefully I will never have to do the same if I encounter another model D and later machine...

Who knew removing the mandrel bearing was gonna be the easiest part of the job?

Well off to slowly acquire a Mandrel, Mandrel bearing, Upper pulley, Mandrel gear and a belt! I'm no stranger with Frankensteining parts together from other machines (of the same model). Once all the parts are together, none be the wiser.
