I can give you one of my grandfather's stories which has a rather risque Cal Stewart-ish ring to it from rural Ontario. One of the old neighbours...in the 1920's was asked if he was thinking about putting in a bathroom.
"No I am not! " he said with some heat " I'll be damned if I'm going to eat in one room and s**t in another...."
And there is a bit of logic around that when ya think about it.... :lol:

After one's noiseless flush in the unventilated room, the individual opens the door and enters the living room, while the Victrola is alive with the sweet clarinet, flute and piano of "Fragrant Roses" (Busy Bee 1315).
