Perhaps, though sewing machine oil has always been my old standby.

The felt will not need to be replaced until it has worn away entirely. If it is not in position to sufficiently slow your motor, the little metal ferrule
which holds the felt, and which in tis turn is held by the speed control arm may be pushed towards the governor disc, so that the motor will run more slowly.

Another thing to check would be the speed control assembly. Some have an adjusting screw or lever to allow for slight wear in the governor felt.

You might post a photo of the under side of the entire motor board, so that we may see which speed control that you are using.

As for sould boxes, your machine will accept any sound box which will fit on a Victor or Gramophone Company arm. A nice Decca, Meltrope III, Columbia Model 24 (also branded "HMV") or Columbia No. 9 will fit your machine and improve the reproduction of later records.

Ok! Problem solved! It was easy thanks to you guys! I'm very grateful for the time you have been dedicating to teach em and help me.

There was indeed a screw to control de distance between the governor's felt and the disk. The felt was too far from the disk. I just gave 2 or 3 turns and then tested with the stroboscope. The 78 rpm are not in the due position, but at least there is a 78 rpm position and I know that I can regulate it.

But I think that the felt was already significantly worn down. You can evaluate it from the photos that I took to document my first trip to the centre of the gramophone.

Mmmm.... "J'Attendrai" by Rina Ketty now sounds beautifully slower. Wow!

Isn't the Meltrope III a large bore soundbox (I don't know about the others)? Will it fit my pre-1925 tonearm?
