Why is it hard for the "Forum" to print "tin cans" re reference to Spanish cylinder containers. OK so by putting something in quotes does is foul up the translation?? If so my apology and will be more careful in the future. In any case the point is there are no American "tin cans" (there I go again) like the colorful European stuff to house cylinders. LH

Here is a pic of a high end Victor VI from supposedly the same era as this Spanish one. Notice the crank placement is toward the front of the case - not the rear, like a Victrola.

Well, the Victor VI was introduced in late 1904, and was initially fitted with the bevel gear motor, which had the crank to the front. The spiral drive motor, which was first used in 1906, had the crank to the rear. About half of all Victor VI machines used the early motor, for by the time of the introduction of the spiral motor the cabinet machines began to cut in to high end sales.

As for the Victrola No. 2 reproducer, it was introduced in 1918, January, as I recall.

Now that said, the crank suggests a 1918-1920 vintage motor. That would put the machine in the correct time frame, but the refinishing on this unit (if refinishing it is) makes it very difficult to properly evaluate.
