Yes the gears are solid. I was looking at the main gear on the end of the spring housing and the belt pulley wheel.

Bruce looking at the pics, you have the earlier style motor with brass spoked gears. That motor was designed for Edison by Frank Capps who was an employee for Edison. That motor typically has nickel plated spherical governor weights but yours are machined steel which were used on the later solid geared motors. The governor was most likely replaced at some point in time. It's a great machine. You have a Class M carriage on it too.
