For whomever my executor and heirs will be when I go to that big phonograph store in the sky, I keep little notes in my Pathé and Diamond Disk machines about what to use to play what records and what type records go with each.

Forget about it, Clay. Just tell your estate boys to call Stanton's to handle all that nutty stuff you have collected.-Bill (old and in Fla. and still amassing)

These horrible videos bring to mind this recent story from the BBC website about a Spanish Fresco that had been 'touched up' by an elderly member of the congregation. I hope you can see this...

"The once-dignified portrait now resembles a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic, he says.
...to make matters worse, the local centre that works to preserve artworks had just received a donation from the painter's granddaughter which they had planned to use to restore the original fresco."
Oh dear!
As for putting the soundbox on the wrong side, I often see photographs of gramophones posed this way. I think many photographers think they look more attractive like this, and (if I put aside the automatic cringe reflex) then aesthetically I agree. Unfortunately, I think some people see these photographs and believe this is the way to play the machine. On portables where the soundbox clips down into the horn, it is also the shortest movement from stowed to playing. Also many machines play more loudly this way. So I can understand the confusion.
Remember many people will never have seen an electric record player, never mind an acoustic gramophone. It is amazing they know to put a needle in as some records will almost play when ridden by the needle screw. Few know to change the needle, unless they find several hundred with the machine, which makes this requirement more obvious.

Oh my God....I'm still scraping plaster from the wall this made me climb from my nails.

That was one of my favorite versions of the song. For that record and phonograph to survive all these years to end up like that. Can't wait for his next selection....

I wonder how many recordings that are being destroyed or damaged on yearly basis because of wrong discs on wrong phonographs?
Another "scary" video. This time, it's an Edison Diamond Disc:

Scroll through his other YouTube uploads (if you dare): sadly this is not the only diamond disc side he has wrecked. Some of the laterals he plays sound just as bad, so he probably thinks this is what a gramophone
should sound like. He has not responded to the comments left.

I think of it this way, my records are becoming more rare and valuable every time someone does this.

I watched a few seconds of this, and simply
couldn't go on.
It's the phonographic equivalent of a 'snuff' video....
