Have as many as you want as long as you can afford it, have the space and don't get major objections from those with whom you live. In other words, if it comes to a choice between buying the phonograph and making the house payment, you had better make the house payment. Tough choice, I know.
As for me, I had indulgent parents and have a wife who indulges me in my hobby, but she does want me to keep the numbers down, which I, in turn do. I've had as many as 50-60 machines at one time but sold a bunch off when we needed the money. Now I'm back up to about 15 and planning to hold somewhere around there. I do have a dream machine though, which I'll probably buy when I find an example I like.

And what might that machine be, my friend?

DeeDee,

I have heard that a good rap to the head with a pink floor standing candy dish is quite effective.

(Sorry Jerry, it was an easy shot and I had to take it :D )
Why do we need signatures when we are on a first avatar basis?

OK George, you made me tell. I've been in love with the Edison mahogany Opera ever since I saw one for the first time 40+ years ago. I never could afford one but now that I might be able to I'm on the hunt. The only problem is that I want the best example I can afford. I've seen several in the last couple of years but they all had problems with missing, wrong or reproduction parts, bad refinishing jobs, etc. Maybe one of these days, though. Who knows, maybe I'll find one at Union.

Operas can be expensive, despite there being many of them around. I hope a nice mahogany example finds its way to you soon! :)

Thanks for your wishes, George, although you know I have much more important things to deal with right now. But if the right one turned up tomorrow, I could likely summon the energy to go after it.
